Maths

Maths is taught daily in each class through a range of fluency and mastery activities. We aim for all children to build  fluency, logical reasoning and effective problem solving skills coupled with the language to articulate their understanding clearly and confidently.
 
We use White Rose maths as the main source for our planning and teaching, providing the children with rich learning experiences and practical activities to help them secure new concepts. 

Times Tables Rock Stars is a maths programme that takes all the worry out of learning times tables and has a proven track record of boosting children’s fluency and recall in multiplication and division.

Our curriculum for mathematics aims to ensure that all pupils:
  • become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, including through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time, so that pupils develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately.
  • reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and generalisations, and developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language
  • can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and nonroutine problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions.
